Tyre Blow Out

I had a tyre blow out on my van as i was coming home from work today.

Going along the M74 between Hamilton & Larkhall in outside lane and a lorry chucked something up in front of me.
Pulled over to discover the spare wheel would not release from the winch underneath - So had to call the AA.
After The guy trying to release it for half an hour or so (unsuccessfully) i got my brother to bring the spare of my dads van -
But unfortunately it did not fit.
AA guy said it would need to be lifted & he would organise the bigger lorry - Didnt want that so 10mins with my Hammer - Old Chisel & bolt cutters i set about it & released the bas##rd (Winch is now in a million bits).

2hrs in the pi##ing rain standing on the hard shoulder before u get home is not a great experience.
Verve replaced this winch less than a year ago under warranty as the original ones were crap.
Dont know if my wheel is damaged but the tyre is wrecked.

Any one else had a problem with the winch system on there cars or vans ?

av had 7 tyres in less than 3 month at work :lol:

....got puncure yesterday first time in a sprinter ......spare wheel bit seemed ok in that.....had a transit box van before that and that was a pain in the ars.....uve got to feed a tube into chassy and turn it to lower wheel down,,,,fookin thing didny enven fit right :lol:

Exact same experience with the Transit Chris.
That's why my spare lives in the back now

i spent ages tryin to wind one down on a f150 truck to discover there was a locking nut that went on it you had fish down a long tube under the back lol
