well bought this back in march and thought i start a project thread on it ..
i rushed the jobs through on the car so it was ready for our regional day at kames
----------
was looking for a wee project to play about with i knew it had to have a blue oval but didnt know what .. and how much i was gonna spend .. found an escort x3ri convertible on ebay , phoned the guy and got a good price over the phone provided i took it that night , well it was already 5pm and i had no way of getting up , so got a loan of a mates trowing dolly and headed through to wishaw .. when i got there is was already dark and i looked at the car and the problems it had .. and then the guy told me it just had a new hood a bootfull of odds n ends and it also came with 3 months mot and 3 months tax and a set of silver/black leather bucket recliners !!!! result , done the deal and put it on the dolly and headed home took my time nice and steady all the way home ..
first things first gave it a wash to see how it looked under all the dirt .. and removed some of the over spray on the tyres ( silver wheel paint )
so i started looking for some bits ..
bought a set of 5 s2 alloys off reeceboy ,
a set of arch extensions and one sidskirt off peterRST
and an other 2 sideskirts off nvr2lt2sk8
and some kind gentlemand on RSOC sold me some jacking point covers (cant remember his user name )
i also got a fully stainless exhaust from a S2 off morryRS
and 4 tyres from kevin_Mc
and some door cards and handles from big Ian
50mm lowering kit from Gazman
leather recaro's from johnl
all parts were as expected and at a great price too cheers guys
Sorry if ive got anyones names wrong
first things first i changed the door cards big ian gave me
from this
to a standard looking 90 spec door ( as it should - cant find a pic)
--------
next was the bodykit , i sanded all the parts down and then wiped them over , i had set up a wee ' paint booth idea in the garage ' to do the wheels so i did the bodykit in the same way with the use of a small pannel heater ..
------------
then i set about the alloys
i wanted a machine finsh look to the face of them so sat for ages and i mean ages sanding them down to give a machined look
i then went on to mask up the face and paint the inserts silver and then clear coat the whole alloys ( clear coated 3 times for extra protection )
-------
next was the seats , i did a deal with johnl for his seats for my recliner bucket seats ..
after a clean
also took the back seats out and shampoo'd them too - made what a differance
i also changed over the rear speaker pods for some standard ones as the onld ones had been butched with 6x9's
---------
next was the exhaust
originally
s/s one
fitted ( only fitted the back box the now but full system will go on once ive changed the engine ( in the future when funds allow it )
----------
next the suspension and bodykit were fitted (kit was small self tapper screws in the underside of the wing as the cab front wings dont come with the bolt holes )
--------
next i fitted the original ford stereo and a new leather gator and richbrook gear stick surround and a better gear stick to the one that was there i had the stuff lying about ..
i also reseated the fan switch and added the roof switch back in ( was stolen ages ago when previous owner had it )
------------
the next day i had the tyres fitted to the rs wheels and put them on the car , i then cleaned it and cleaned it a bit more and made kames the next day and had a fantastic time as my first meet with the club was the regional day ..
( and before anyone mentions it and i ruffle any feathers , i wasnt on the main stand during the day i took my car down to get some pics next to fraz at the end of the day )
update , bought a set of st170 wheels , and 4 new tyres ..
update , gathered all my spares in one place .
update - quick wash before being collected
my aim is that i dont want to do too much cos i dont want to spoil it ..
i will update this thread each time i do something new
