S2 Winter Tidy Up

Got the car about 6-8 weeks ago so thought id put a wee thread up in here to show my plans for her.

The car came with alot of history and invoices for various bits n pieces including

Piper T2 cam
T3 Hybrid turbo (stage 3)
Pace Intercooler
Ported head
Scorpion Exhaust
Block bored out to take 0.5mm oversize pistons
RR Printout at 202BHP

The car used to belong to an RSOC member who had the car re-sprayed in Civic type R nightfire or nighthawk black with added metal flake which does look awesome in the sun.

Day I brought it back took her straight to my mates garage for a quick check up


Tracking was adjusted and off I went to have a play which resulted in 4 bent valves as we later found out the timing was out a tooth and i hit the limiter overtaking and the valves clipped pistons.

Used her for a week then took her off the road for the winter to fit a new steering rack, clutch, remove the morrettes, fill & paint bumper, bonnet & arch trim. Also got a cooler thermostat to fit, dash surround with boost guage holder and also on the look out for rear lights without the orange lens in.

Interesting, how do you get on With the intercooler blocking the air to the radiator in traffic mate? As mine tries to overheat all the time!! got a cooler thermostat coming and I'll probably get ripped off for an MSD fan switch soon too!

It seems to be ok, I put a slighy cooler thermostat in as well, so that's a step in the right direction,
I also put a relay in to bridge the fanswitch in the thermostat housing so that I can put the fans on manually as well if I see the traffic is starting to build up,

It helps to get the fans on early to keep it cool

I had my heaters on 24/7 out of paranoia and I ended up with opening rear quarters to let the heat out and stop heatstroke

You're in good hands on here plenty decent folk to keep you right. I'll help you burn those morrettes! didn't look good on it.
And polish that fuel filter and bracket!

Its mental! Ive ordered a cooler thermostat not sure how much it will help though! MSD fan switch and manual switch would help too! Full size cooler seems to sapp fresh air! Dont really want to start polishing everything as its an expensive habit! haha!

Cooler thermostat is here and also a bonnet stay clip which was annoying me, going to get all the hoses off tomorrow for cleaning and order what i need in the way of new ones and fit the clip & thermostat. Not really happy in the way that the intercooler is fitted as its just hanging there by the looks of things, does anyone know how the pace cooler is supposed to be bolted on?

bk lights a have mate are fkd ad say......widny put them on ma own car so wont sell them to anybody...went a funny colour were the tint bit are ...anything else mate gees a shout ,usualy got few spares lying around ..


got a colder thermostat in mine still runs kinda warm......but only when sitting idleing...guess big slab at front gets cold enough when driving to keep it cool and cools rad at same time a guess:)

Update from todays antics, heres the bodge described above



Most hoses stripped off,





Then decided to remove intercooler, which was a bit awkward, had to remove one bolt in the back of the actuator and spin it to get the clearance for the radiator to come free so I could minipulate 'cooler out.



Glad I got the cooler out as I took it to a pressure washer and noticed an un bunged threaded hole which will have been leaking boost since I got it!!

Was working by the light from my dads car by the end of it as I was actually enjoying myself haha peace from everyone!
Just to fit cooler thermostat in housing tomorrow and buy a new fan switch.

Wee bit more today, got my dash surround which needs a rub back and paint which shouldnt be too hard, Went to Kilmory Coachworks to get bits for the Escort and saw the progress on the Team Kilmory rally car which despite the rain made me want to get on with the escort, so heres a few pics!



Improvisation so I could stay dry


Light & indicator properly fitted, bumper just sat on roughly


Removed Relay & extra wiring for the morretes


Thanks to this beast i stayed dry whilst lying in the puddles!


Thats all for a wee while, back to work on the 4th and away in glasgow & Newmilns until the 3rd

Cheers pete, I found out its just two nipples that screw into the bottom of the cooler and sit in holes on the bottom of the front panel. I think I'm gonna go down the bracket route. Think I'll bend some aluminium round the inlet and outlet and find somewhere to bolt it to nicely so it looks half decent!

Could you check what you have bunging the threaded hole in the back passenger side like I front of the dizzy please mate?

More progress, girlfriend bought me a set of mondeo 5 spokes tonight for my birthday next month which was good! They are in ok nick just a wee bit of bubbling but I'm gonna get them refurbed I think! Anyone reccomend any good places? I already get a discount at Chameleon through the car club I co-run but anyone know anywhere cheaper?

alright Paul,
Hope the brackets on the intercooler work out ok, if you're looking for a place to refurb wheels, Carrick engineering in Prestwick, they do a very good job and are fairly priced, dunno how local it is to you though??

Yeah mate they should do! I've heard of them right enough, not local to me though! Think I'm gonna go with chameleon coatings as I get a discount there anyway! Cheers mate!

Wee bit more done last weekend, got the cooler, rad and all hoses and pipes back on and filled up with coolant, disconnected the cold start valve and it idled perfect. Got a new valve to go in now i know its that that was causing it to be a pest on start up. Polished the end tanks on the cooler and gave it a lick of paint, but forgot to take pics! ha! heres how it is so far.

New rack to be fitted
Lights & indicators to fit
Indicator wiring to solder & heat shrink
Rear light seals to fit
Dash surround to prep n paint
Refit carpet & passenger seat

Then for the MOT

Making a lot of progress, everything done apart from fitting the rack, sorting speedo drive and removing the old ABS system, then it will be ready for MOT
